As the first phase of Westown’s infrastructure development is activated our new City is imagined, planned and reimagined, driven by the opportunity to do things differently for the future.
Building Westown is not a short-term endeavour. Part of our journey to create a destination that integrates with and reflects not only the Outer West but the province and country as a whole, is ensuring that every precinct and sub-precinct planned now is still the right solution when the time comes to build it.
“A new city isn’t presented as a product. It is developed through a layered and nuanced process that must allow for some organic development,” says Erky Wood one of South Africa’s leading urban designers and lead urbanist on Westown.
With a mixed-use agenda that puts people and their needs first, Westown will make it possible for people of the area to be part of the city and not a-part from it. This helps in bringing economic value to everyone in the area thereby encouraging social integration, participation and ownership of the place.
