The Westown Trails are just about ready, but before the official ribbon cutting, we are taking the space for a test run (literally) and a ride and a trot….
Every week from Thursday to Sunday 6am to 12pm, the Westown Paddock, Trail & MTB Hub will be open for Trailblazers to explore, and we would like you to share your thoughts, views and suggestions with us.
The hub is designed as the gateway into the Shongweni trail network, welcoming mountain bikers, runners, horse riders, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Initially, a point for you to sign in before hitting the trails, the Trail Hub will grow into a space with trail maps (see map below), lockers, a bike wash bay, and water refill stations. For horse riders, paddocks with water and hay are already in place, making the hub a convenient and welcoming stop for equestrian users – all this just steps away from the restaurants and shops at Westown Square.
GO TRAILBLAZERS
- ???? You’ll find the hub on Saddle Row, just below the Pick n Pay parking lot – look out for the striking street art by local artist Ewok that captures the spirit of movement, energy, and connection with the earth and transforms the building into a vibrant landmark.
- ???? Head to the Trail Hub, sign the Westown Trail Indemnity and off you go – whether on two wheels, two feet, or four hooves (and of course dogs are welcome – but please keep them on a lead).
- ???? The Yellow Route of the Westown Trail is free to access and does not require a permit. If you’d like to link from the Westown Trail into the Purple EMBA network, you’ll need to be an existing EMBA member or purchase a day permit from our Trail Hub office. This permit is R50, and you can pay via Zapper. Westown Trails Map
- ☕As a thank-you for being one of our early trailblazers, you’ll get a coffee voucher to enjoy back at Westown Square once your adventure is done.

And then tell us about your Westown Trail test run!
- How did you find your experience, riding, running, or walking?
- What could we add or improve to make the space even better?
- What would make the hub feel like your home base for outdoor adventures?
Your feedback will help us shape the trails and hub into something truly owned by the community.
Stay tuned for details of the official opening coming soon, and look out for special events like the Balwin Wild Ride in October, which will put the hub and the Westown Trails firmly on the map.
