The 2023 construction period has begun and the Westown development team is back on site, with a focus on the Kassier Rd – Phase 1A bypass and clearing the site for the Westown Square retail high street experience.
Kassier Rd upgrade is long overdue, with the commitment by the eThekwini Municipality to the funding of this and other work, having enabled the development of Westown. These upgrades include:
- Bulk water, wastewater and electricity.
- New bridges over the M13 and N3 (pedestrian bridge).
- A new loop ramp & bridge over Kassier Rd for access into Westown.
- A phased upgrade of Kassier Rd from the R103 to Milky Way into a 4-lane dual carriageway with a central median and sidewalks.
KASSIER RD – PHASE 1A BYPASS
From mid-February 2023, a bypass road will be in place on Kassier Rd between the N3 and Milky Way (MR559). The bypass will run in both directions and will be in place for approximately 12 months. This bypass route is shown below, with the Kassier Rd Upgrade – Overall plan providing details on Phase 1B and Phase 2.
