11 August 2022 – An East Coast Radio news report highlighted that the first phase of the multi-billion rand Shongweni Urban Development project has been launched.
In this news report, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda is reported as saying that this stage of the two thousand hectare project will include the retail high street of Westown Square, a new hospital, residential apartments, as well as commercial, business and logistics sub-precincts.
He says once all phases are complete it’s anticipated 30 000 jobs will be created. “We are aware that this project is located between ward 7 and ward 103 and we will ensure that the people of these two wards are prioritised in terms of empowerment opportunities.”
