Piling work and the bridge foundations near completion for the access point into Westown. This bridge will take those travelling from the Hillcrest side of the N3 via a new loop ramp and directly into the new city of the west.
Once piling at this bridge point is complete, the rig will move to the M13 where it will begin work for the new bridge at this site. This bridge allows for the much-needed upgrade of the existing two-lane Kassier Rd into two dedicated straight lanes and a turning lane in either direction as well as pedestrian sidewalks. One bridge structure will be built to minimise disruptions and accommodate existing traffic flows, and then the current bridge will be demolished, and the remainder of the new bridge built.
This section of work is scheduled for completion at the end of 2024 and is part of the phased upgrade of Kassier Rd, including:
- PHASE 1A – from the N3 to Milky Way (P559)
- PHASE 1B – from the N3 Shongweni interchange heading north to the Hillcrest hospital/Alverstone intersection.
- PHASE 2 – from Alverstone to the R103 (Old Main Rd)
As these bridge foundations near completion, go to our Roads & Infrastructure page for more information.
