Living Landscape at Westown Square

Posted on 17 May 2025
Living Landscape at Westown Square

It is more than just greenery – the living landscape at Westown Square is a storytelling element rooted in Shongweni’s heritage and natural beauty.

Landscape architects Ignes de Beer and Lucas Uys drew inspiration from the area’s agricultural legacy, incorporating vineyards in parking areas, themed botanical entrances, and orchard-style crates and barrels filled with lemon trees.

The mix of indigenous and exotic plants evokes the charm of “old Durban,” with seasonal colour and texture woven throughout the space. With over 550,000 plants already in the ground and a striking bonsai exhibition on display, the landscape at Westown Square is a vibrant, evolving expression of place and community.

Read the full details of Westown’s landscaping philosophy, and how it has been implemented in the article written by  SA Landscape Magazine
